Recently California has introduced their new program to reduce overcrowding in prisons. This planning was brought into effect after a ruling that the state must reduce its prison population by 57,000 inmates. Some methods of cutting the population include limiting new admissions, changing policies so parole violators return to prison less frequently, and giving prisoners more time off of their sentences for good behavior and rehabilitation efforts.
I think this plan is terrible. I think instead of making all these changes they should just open up more prisons in California. I think people would understand if there tax money was being spent on new prisons to keep criminals behind bars. Plus inmates shouldn't be let off easy just because of overcrowding, they deserve to serve the time they recieved from the crime they committed.
